Meet Dr Julie!
Julie trained at the University of Queensland back when dinosaurs walked the earth, in the early ’90s. Although she started her professional life as a large animal vet in Brisbane’s bayside, seeing horses with colic at 3 am on cold winters nights soon lost its appeal and she now concentrates on the care of small domestic pets.
After a few years locuming in the United Kingdom, she returned to Australia to a position with the RSPCA located in Newcastle and Broken Hill. When living among the Mexican’s became too much, she returned home to Queensland, working in a variety of Southside practices. Following some time off starting a family, Julie now works Fridays and Saturdays at Algester Vets, a job she enjoys for its opportunities to closely connect with her patients and their owners. When time allows, she loves bushwalking, kayaking or, on those lazy days, immersing herself in a good book.

It’s wonderful to be able to have absolute trust that you’re getting really quality advice and the utmost of care. I love knowing that I’m not being talked into things I don’t need, just good honest care of the highest degree. I would definitely recommend Algester vets to all my friends and family. We’ve been a customer of Algester vets on and off for 14 years. Julie is possibly the most helpful and empathetic vet I’ve encountered. Whilst some other vet surgeries seem purely focussed on extracting as much money as possible from their clients, Algester vets have worked on a palliative care program with us on our elderly labrador that has been very effective.

My dog has been going to Algester Vets since he was a puppy, 8 years later he still loves it when its time to see his long time friend Vet Dr Julie. Recently he needed a small procedure and was suffering severe pain. Both Julie, Dr Shibly and the nurses were super helpful and very thorough when working with Bronx and helping me work through this really stressful time. I have often considered changing vets due to our ever moving location but Bronx loves his friends at Algester Vets so much I don’t think changing is an option :) This gives me peace of mind knowing they are professional and kind to him while he’s there.Very thankful for their care and everything they have done for Bronx over the years.
